Members of the Followspot Position Working Group present their work on a draft American National Standard BSR E1.28, Guidance on planning followspot positions in places of public assembly. Members of the audience will have opportunities to comment on the work, to offer suggestions, and to air complaints, and thus help the standards-drafting process. The moderators for the session will be Robin Crews of Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. and Jack Schmidt of Special Lighting Solutions. April 12, 2005 - The ESTA Foundation Seminars & Training Committee to Present Rigging Fundamentals Workshop New York, NY — Rigging expert Jay O. Glerum of Jay O. Glerum & Associates Inc. will present a full-day Rigging Fundamentals Workshop on Thursday, November 10, 2005 in Orlando, Florida. The course is presented by the Seminars and Training committee of The ESTA Foundation, in association with Lighting Dimensions and Entertainment Design magazines. April 08, 2005 - Comprehensive Rigging Bibliography Posted New York, NY — The ESTA Foundation’s Seminars & Training Committee announces the posting of a bibliography of rigging reference materials in the Technical Education section of the ESTA website at http://www.esta.org/teched/seminarsandtraining.html to assist the industry in readily locating resources related to rigging. Featuring subjects like general and stage rigging, stagecraft, ropes and knots, and structural engineering, this bibliography includes books, articles, standards, and other materials to create a comprehensive list of rigging standards and techniques. A list of rigging seminars, workshops and other educational programs relevant to rigging is also posted on the site. April 04, 2005 - ETCP RIGGING EXAM INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE The Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) Council is pleased to announce the rigging candidate handbook and application forms are now available. The first ETCP rigging examinations (arena and theatre) will be held in November 2005 in conjunction with the ETS-LDI tradeshow. Candidate information, including eligibility requirements and application forms, are available on the ETCP website (www.etcp.esta.org). February 15, 2005 - ESTA Seminar on Programming Automated Lighting Fixtures Extends Deadline NEW YORK, NY – The ESTA Foundation’s Seminars & Training Committee has extended the registration deadline for their intensive, one-day hands-on training workshop entitled Programming Automated Lighting Fixtures On A Conventional Tracking Console (Strand Lighting 500 Series). The workshop is limited to 20 people (two people per console), and will take place immediately following USITT in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 9:00am-5:00pm. The instructor for the course is Bobby Harrell (bobbyharrelllighting.com), a lighting designer and programmer in opera, dance and theatre for over 15 years. For the past few years, members of ESTA have been working on the identified need to provide entry-level entertainment technicians with the essential skills necessary to practice their craft. To further this purpose, the ESTA Board of Directors created the ESTA Foundation, to be established as a 501(c)3 organization.
