December 01, 2006 - ESTA Secretary Erik Magnuson Passes Away
NEW YORK, NY -- It is with great sadness that ESTA announces the sudden passing of our longtime Secretary, Erik Magnuson, on Thursday, November 30th. Erik was the owner of The MAGNUM Companies, Ltd. in Atlanta, GA. He was 55.

NEW YORK, NY -- ESTA (the Entertainment Services and Technology Association) announces the 2006 Frank Stewart Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognizes extraordinary effort by a volunteer or group of volunteers during the previous year. The ESTA Board of Directors presented the 2006 award to Ken Vannice for his work on leading the development of the ETCP Entertainment Electrician Examination and to the RDM Task Group for their work in developing ANSI E1.20, the Remote Device Management standard.

NEW YORK, NY -- ESTA (the Entertainment Services and Technology Association) announces the finalists for the 2006 Dealers' and Manufacturers' Choice Awards. The Dealers' Choice Customer Service Awards offer ESTA's Dealer Members the opportunity to publicly recognize those vendors that provide consistently good customer service throughout the year. Although a great product may get a dealer's attention, it is good service that keeps the relationship between dealers and manufacturers strong and profitable. These awards recognize superior performance in four main areas: Customer Service, Shipping and Billing, Technical Support and Quotations/Project Management. In voting on these awards, dealers are asked to consider such areas as accessibility, staff knowledge and professionalism, timely responses, accuracy, and problem solving abilities.

Interested in discussing followspot positions? If so, plan to attend "Followspot Positions: Perfecting perfect perches" scheduled to be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, November 12, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., as part of the ESTA Conference Track at the Entertainment Technology Show-LDI. Members of the Followspot Position Working Group present their work on a draft American National Standard BSR E1.28, Guidance on planning followspot positions in places of public assembly. Members of the audience will have opportunities to comment on the work, to offer suggestions, and to air complaints, and thus help the standards-drafting process. The moderators for the session will be Robin Crews of Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. and Jack Schmidt of Special Lighting Solutions.

April 12, 2005 - The ESTA Foundation Seminars & Training Committee to Present Rigging Fundamentals Workshop
New York, NY — Rigging expert Jay O. Glerum of Jay O. Glerum & Associates Inc. will present a full-day Rigging Fundamentals Workshop on Thursday, November 10, 2005 in Orlando, Florida. The course is presented by the Seminars and Training committee of The ESTA Foundation, in association with Lighting Dimensions and Entertainment Design magazines. The course will take place from 8:30am to 5:30pm at the Rosen Plaza, ESTA's official hotel for The Entertainment Technology Show-LDI2005.

April 08, 2005 - Comprehensive Rigging Bibliography Posted
New York, NY — The ESTA Foundation’s Seminars & Training Committee announces the posting of a bibliography of rigging reference materials in the Technical Education section of the ESTA website at http://www.esta.org/teched/seminarsandtraining.html to assist the industry in readily locating resources related to rigging. Featuring subjects like general and stage rigging, stagecraft, ropes and knots, and structural engineering, this bibliography includes books, articles, standards, and other materials to create a comprehensive list of rigging standards and techniques. A list of rigging seminars, workshops and other educational programs relevant to rigging is also posted on the site.

April 04, 2005 - ETCP RIGGING EXAM INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE
The Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) Council is pleased to announce the rigging candidate handbook and application forms are now available. The first ETCP rigging examinations (arena and theatre) will be held in November 2005 in conjunction with the ETS-LDI tradeshow. Candidate information, including eligibility requirements and application forms, are available on the ETCP website (www.etcp.esta.org).

February 15, 2005 - ESTA Seminar on Programming Automated Lighting Fixtures Extends Deadline
NEW YORK, NY – The ESTA Foundation’s Seminars & Training Committee has extended the registration deadline for their intensive, one-day hands-on training workshop entitled Programming Automated Lighting Fixtures On A Conventional Tracking Console (Strand Lighting 500 Series). The workshop is limited to 20 people (two people per console), and will take place immediately following USITT in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 9:00am-5:00pm. The instructor for the course is Bobby Harrell (bobbyharrelllighting.com), a lighting designer and programmer in opera, dance and theatre for over 15 years.

February 10, 2005 - ESTA Roundtable on Marketing Products to the Entertainment Industry
NEW YORK, NY – ESTA, the Entertainment Services and Technology Association, will host a roundtable discussion on the recently released study “How Customers Specify and Buy Expendables, Equipment and Systems in the Entertainment Industries” on Thursday, March 17th from 11am – 12:30pm at the Metro Toronto Convention Center during the USITT Conference.

New York, NY — ESTA announces the creation of the ESTA Foundation. For the past few years, members of ESTA have been working on the identified need to provide entry-level entertainment technicians with the essential skills necessary to practice their craft. To further this purpose, the ESTA Board of Directors created the ESTA Foundation, to be established as a 501(c)3 organization. ESTA’s Technical Education Committee and its subcommittees - Essential Skills, Publications & Assessments and Seminars & Training - have been moved under the auspices of the Foundation.

NEW YORK, NY -- The Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) announces two appointments to its Board of Directors to replace members who have recently stepped down for personal reasons. Dinna Myers of Musson Theatrical has been appointed Dealer Vice President and will serve the remaining two and half years of the current term vacated by Cindi Manning. Dinna, who is Sales Manager at Musson Theatrical, will continue with her duties as Co-Chair of ESTA’s Communications and Publications Committee and as a frequent and favorite contributor to ESTA’s journal Protocol.
